Accessibility Statement
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Solo Group LLC is committed to making Meezy usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is not a one-time project for us — we treat it as an ongoing obligation, and this statement describes where we currently stand, what we know is not yet right, and how to reach a person who can help.
If any part of Meezy prevents you from doing something you need to do, we want to hear about it and we will work with you to get it resolved. Contact details are in Section 9.
1. Scope of This Statement
This statement applies to:
- The Meezy website and marketing pages at solokitchen.org;
- The Meezy web application, including the pantry, receipt scanning, recipes, cooking, and shopping list features; and
- The Meezy iPhone app, which is built natively for iOS (see Section 5 for how it has been evaluated); and
- The Meezy Android app, which presents the same web application inside a native container and therefore shares its accessibility characteristics.
It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control, even where Meezy links to or integrates with them. See Section 6.
2. Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for making digital content more accessible to people with disabilities. WCAG has three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Meezy is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the Service meets the WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria, but some content or functionality does not yet fully conform. The specific areas we know fall short are listed in Section 5.
We have selected WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our target because it is the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice for public entities under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and because it is the technical basis for EN 301 549, the harmonized European standard. We track WCAG 2.2 and expect to adopt it as our target in a future revision of this statement.
3. Measures We Take
Solo Group LLC takes the following measures to make the Service accessible:
- We treat accessibility defects as functional defects, not cosmetic ones, and prioritize them accordingly.
- We build interactive components from semantic HTML wherever possible, and apply ARIA roles, states, and labels where native semantics are insufficient.
- We test keyboard-only operation of new interactive features before release.
- We honor operating-system and browser accessibility preferences rather than overriding them.
- We define our interface colors as a single set of shared design tokens and check those tokens programmatically against the WCAG 2.1 contrast thresholds, so a color that fails is corrected once, at the source, rather than page by page.
- We review this statement and reassess our conformance at least annually, and whenever we ship a significant change to the Service.
We do not use an automated accessibility overlay, plugin, or widget. We consider accessibility the responsibility of the underlying interface itself.
4. Accessibility Features
The following are implemented across the Service today:
- Keyboard operation. Interactive controls are reachable and operable by keyboard. Full-screen experiences — including Cook Mode, the receipt camera, and the receipt cropping tool — are implemented as labeled modal dialogs with keyboard navigation and an Escape-key exit. The receipt crop frame can be moved and resized with the arrow keys, so cropping does not require a pointing device or a dragging gesture.
- Visible focus indicators. Interactive controls show a visible focus indicator when you navigate by keyboard: a high-contrast outline or ring, or on many text fields a change in border color (see Section 5).
- Dialogs. Modal sheets move keyboard focus into the dialog when they open, keep it inside while they are open, and return it to the control that opened them when they close. Escape closes them.
- Skip link. A "Skip to content" link is the first navigable item on our marketing, legal, and signed-in pages.
- Video. Our silent product film has pause and play controls and a text description of everything it shows, available beside the video.
- Reduced motion. If your system requests reduced motion, animations, transitions, and auto-playing sequences are disabled or reduced to a negligible duration. Auto-advancing carousels also provide an explicit pause control.
- Reduced transparency. If your system requests reduced transparency, the frosted-glass surfaces used in our navigation fall back to solid backgrounds.
- Text alternatives. Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; purely decorative graphics and icons are hidden from assistive technology so they do not add noise.
- Status and progress announcements. Progress indicators, step counters, and live status changes expose their state to assistive technology.
- Page language. The language of each page is declared programmatically.
- Responsive, zoomable layout. The interface reflows for narrow viewports and supports browser zoom and increased text size without loss of content or functionality.
5. Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some limitations remain. Below is a candid list of what we currently know about, the effect on users, and what we are doing about it. If you encounter something not on this list, please tell us.
Focus indicator on text fields. On many form fields the keyboard focus indicator is a change of border color rather than a full outline. We have not yet measured every one of these against the WCAG 2.1 non-text contrast minimum of 3:1, so some may be harder to see than they should be. We are checking and strengthening them.
Receipt scanning is a visual task. Photographing a paper receipt, and then cropping the resulting image, is inherently visual and may be difficult or impossible for some users to perform independently. This feature is not the only way to use Meezy: every pantry item can be added, edited, and removed manually through a fully keyboard- and screen-reader-accessible form, and where our optional email receipt import is available it can bring in receipts without any camera use. We are continuing to look for ways to reduce the visual demands of scanning, including automatic edge detection that removes the need to crop by hand.
Third-party and user-submitted content. Recipes in Meezy come partly from third-party sources and partly from other users. We cannot guarantee that the wording, heading structure, or image descriptions in that content meet our own standards. We correct specific items when they are reported to us.
Third-party components. Our sign-in and sign-up forms include a bot-protection challenge provided by Cloudflare. Its accessibility is determined by that vendor rather than by us. If this challenge blocks you from creating or accessing your account, contact us and we will assist you directly.
Native mobile applications. The iPhone app is built with native iOS components and implements Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels and traits, large touch targets, and Reduce Motion, but it has not yet had a systematic evaluation with VoiceOver. The Android app presents the web application inside a native container and has not been separately evaluated against TalkBack, so platform-level behavior may differ from that of a desktop browser. These evaluations are planned.
No independent audit yet. Our conformance claim rests on internal evaluation only (see Section 8). We have not yet commissioned a third-party accessibility audit.
6. Compatibility With Browsers and Assistive Technology
Meezy is designed to be compatible with recent versions of the following browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari, in each case on the two most recent major versions of the underlying operating system.
Meezy is designed to work with assistive technologies that are supported by those browsers, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech recognition software, and alternative input devices. Meezy may not work reliably with browser versions older than those described above, or with assistive technologies that are no longer supported by their own vendors.
7. Technical Specifications
Accessibility of Meezy relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:
- HTML
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS
- JavaScript
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
8. Assessment Approach
Solo Group LLC assessed the accessibility of the Service by self-evaluation, carried out internally by our own team. Our assessment combines automated testing, manual keyboard-only testing, review of markup semantics and ARIA usage, and programmatic measurement of color contrast ratios against the WCAG 2.1 thresholds.
We have not engaged an external organization to conduct a formal accessibility audit or to produce a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). Should we do so, we will update this statement.
9. Feedback and Contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Meezy, and we treat accessibility reports as a priority. Please contact us:
Solo Group LLC Email: support@solokitchen.org
To help us respond quickly, it is useful — but never required — to include the page or feature involved, what you were trying to do, the browser, operating system, and any assistive technology you were using, and what happened instead.
How we respond. We treat accessibility reports as a priority and aim to respond as promptly as we reasonably can. When you report a barrier, we will confirm that we have received your message, tell you what we have found once we have looked into it, and — where a fix is needed — let you know that we intend to make it. If a fix will take time, we will try to offer an alternative way to accomplish what you were trying to do in the meantime. Meezy is a small team, so we ask for your patience; if you have not heard back from us and need to follow up, please write to us again at the same address.
10. Alternative Formats and Accommodations
If any information or functionality in Meezy is not accessible to you, contact us at support@solokitchen.org and we will provide the information in an alternative format, or assist you in completing the task, at no cost to you. This includes help with account creation or sign-in, help with entering pantry items, and providing recipe content in an accessible format on request.
11. Enforcement and Formal Complaints
We would prefer to resolve any accessibility concern with you directly, and Section 9 is the fastest route. You also have the following rights.
United States — Americans with Disabilities Act. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division at ada.gov/file-a-complaint, or seek other remedies available to you under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
California — Unruh Civil Rights Act. Solo Group LLC is a California limited liability company. California residents have additional rights under the Unruh Civil Rights Act (California Civil Code section 51 et seq.), which prohibits discrimination in access to business establishments, including their digital services. Complaints may be directed to the California Civil Rights Department at calcivilrights.ca.gov, in addition to any private right of action available under that statute.
European Union — European Accessibility Act. For users in the European Union, the Service is provided with reference to the accessibility requirements of Directive (EU) 2019/882 (the European Accessibility Act) and the harmonized standard EN 301 549, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Each EU member state designates its own market surveillance and enforcement authority for these requirements. If we do not resolve your concern, you may escalate it to the designated authority in your country of residence.
12. Changes to This Statement
We review this statement at least annually and whenever we make a significant change to the Service. When we revise it, we will post the updated statement on this page with a new "Last updated" date. This statement was last reviewed on the date shown at the top of this page.
